Police in Newark are crediting a ShotSpotter detection unit for alerting them of an early morning shooting near University Hospital.
The detection device activated when shooters fired several rounds at unknown targets near 220 Camden Street just before 2:30 a.m.
Officers arrived at the scene and found shell casings, but no victims were found after police searched the neighborhood.
The suspects fled the scene and remained at large.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
