A 43-year-old Camden man was sentenced to life in prison today for the murder of Edwin Davis.
According to authorities, Superior Court Judge Kathleen Delaney ordered a life sentence of 75 years for Murder of which Reed is required to serve at least 85% of his sentence without parole, meaning he not be eligible for parole for more than 63 years.
In addition to the Murder charge, a jury found Reed guilty of one count each of Robbery, Felony Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful purpose and Possession of Hollow Nose Bullets after a trial in February.
During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor David Deitz presented evidence proving Reed confronted the victim, Davis, with a handgun, as Davis was leaving his residence on Morgan Boulevard to go to work during the early morning hours of a rainy May 3, 2016. During the robbery of the victim, Reed shot Davis once in the chest. Shotspotter activation evidence was presented at trial demonstrating that Davis was killed at 6:07 a.m.
Assistant Prosecutor Deitz also presented video evidence showing Reed getting dropped off in the area by a friend, leaving the area near the victim’s residence and then hiding in the area of the Crestbury Apartments. The video then shows the defendant being picked up by his friend a few minutes after the shooting. The same vehicle was pulled over later that same morning by the Camden County Police Department with Allen Reed sitting in the passenger seat.
A search was conducted upon the defendant’s residence and wet clothing worn by Reed and a revolver with five live hollow nose bullet rounds and one spent shell casing were located inside Reed’s bedroom. Ballistics evidence that was presented demonstrated that the revolver found in Reed’s bedroom was the gun that was used to kill Edwin Davis.
As Judge Delaney imposed Reed’s sentence, she mentioned Reed’s extensive history of contact with law enforcement including ten felony convictions.
