Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a Camden man received an aggregate sentence of 74 years in prison for the 2013 kidnapping and shooting of a woman who he previously assaulted in Camden.
Allan Mattocks, 34, of Camden was convicted by a jury in March on one count each of kidnapping, attempted murder, witness tampering, witness retaliation, certain persons not to have weapons, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and criminal restraint as well as two counts each of conspiracy and aggravated assault.
Mattocks was accused of kidnapping a then-48-year-old Camden woman, shooting her in the head and then dumping her in a vacant lot near the 500 block of Rand Street in Camden on April 12, 2013. The victim remains in a vegetative state.
During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Shilton presented evidence and testimony showing Mattocks was attempting to silence the victim by shooting her and then tried to cover up the crime. Mattocks had been facing charges in a pending case for assaulting the same victim at his home on Boyd Street on April 10, 2012.
Mattocks will be required to serve approximately 63 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. The sentence was imposed on Friday by Superior Court Judge John T. Kelley.
