A 31-year-old Camden man on September 7th was sentenced by the Honorable John T. Kelley, J.S.C. to 65 years in connection with the murder of Luis Feliu.
According to authorities, Jerry Reyes, 31, of Camden, is required to serve 56 years before he is eligible for parole.
Officials say Reyes was found guilty of first-degree Murder, second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. Additionally, the jury also returned a verdict of Guilty for a separate count of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons.
At trial, Assistant Prosecutor Michael Mastrangelo presented witness testimony, surveillance video and photographs to establish that Reyes shot and killed Luis Feliu on March 12, 2016 just prior to 5:30 p.m.
The evidence established that Camden County Police responded to a shot-spotter activation alert in the area of Haddon Avenue and Mt. Vernon Streets. Several 9-1-1 calls reporting a shooting were also received.
Officials say when police arrived at the scene they located Luis Feliu, 28, of Camden, lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
During trial, witnesses reported that they saw Reyes reach into his waistband and pull out a gun during a verbal altercation with the victim. As the victim retreated, Reyes chased him and shot him multiple times from behind. Reyes then fled the scene on foot.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force on March 15, 2016 took Jerry Reyes into custody by after he exited a residence in Willingboro.
