Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced a Camden man has been convicted for a 2015 drug distribution charge.
Edres Carter, 29, was convicted by a jury on Friday for possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school.
During the trial, Assistant Prosecutor Cynthia Jentsch presented evidence and testimony showing on June 10, 2015, officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Task Force were in the area of the 1100 block of Thurman Street in Camden and observed Carter make a hand-to-hand transaction with an unidentified male. The unidentified male gave Carter money and Carter gave the unidentified male items from a white bag. Carter was arrested with 79 bags of heroin and 10 bags of crack cocaine from the white bag. The unidentified male fled the area.
Carter faces a mandatory extended term because of his prior convictions for possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school. He faces a maximum of 15 years in state prison and must serve at least 7.5 years before being eligible for parole.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 29, 2016.
