Authorities announced that Jacob Rodriguez, 24, of Camden, has been charged with the shooting that killed Elijah Jackson on Nov. 27th.
When Camden County Police responded to 7th and State Streets in Camden just after 10:30 a.m., they found the victim, Elijah Jackson, unconscious on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Jacob Rodriguez had been in the area at the time of the shooting and allegedly shot at Elijah Jackson.
Officials say Jacob Rodriguez was charged with first degree Murder on Dec. 11th, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson.
According to authorities, Jacob Rodriguez was taken into custody without incident by the United States Marshals yesterday afternoon in Camden on unrelated charges. He was then taken to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office where he was charged early this morning with killing Elijah Jackson. He was transported to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing.
Under Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order he be detained or released with conditions.
The investigation is ongoing.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
