Camden Man Accused of Killing Cousin Arrested

Camden

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson announced the arrest of a city man wanted for the fatal shooting of his cousin back in August of this year.

Braheem Carmickel, 26, of Camden, is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his 25-year-old cousin, Kashif Carmickel of Camden.

Police responded to the intersection of Sycamore and Orchard streets at approximately 12:34 a.m. on August 23 for a report of a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, police found Kashif Carmickel was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m.

During the course of the investigation, detectives gathered cell phone and GPS evidence as well as surveillance footage that aided in identifying Braheem Carmickel as the alleged shooter. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Friday.

He was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force around 6:15 p.m. today at his attorney’s office on the 500 block of Cooper Street in Camden.

He was transported to Camden County Police headquarters and later remanded to the Camden County Jail in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.

A future arraignment date will be scheduled in Superior Court.
