Authorities in Camden Couty are looking into the cause of a crash that killed one person and sent as many as four others to the hospital suffering severe injuries.
The violent Friday night crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-676 near exit 1B in Gloucester City.
In the crash, the preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 10:50 p.m, emergency responders rushed to the highway after they received several 911 calls reporting a collision with an overturned vehicle.
Police arrived and found two vehicles with severe damage and one of the cars overturned on its side with four victims trapped. Police say the other vehicle involved in the collision had two occupants trapped inside.
According to police, firefighters extricated all the injured, but one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A firefighter was taken to the hospital, suffering minor injuries while trying to extricate the victims.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
