Camden County Correctional Officer Charged with Assaulting Inmate

Camden County

Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo reported a corrections officer has been charged in connection with an assault on an inmate at the Camden County Jail.

John Stinsman, 43, of Pennsauken, a sergeant with the Camden County Department of Corrections, is charged with one count each of official misconduct, aggravated assault and simple assault.

Stinsman is accused of kicking and stomping a male inmate multiple times in the torso in the early morning hours of October 27, 2015.

Video surveillance footage from the jail shows Stinsman delivering these strikes after the inmate had been subdued and handcuffed, which is contrary to the incident report he prepared.

Upon routine review of reports and video surveillance footage, jail officials discovered the alleged assault and reported it to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Camden County Department of Corrections has remained fully cooperative during this investigation.

Stinsman was charged on Thursday and his bail was set at $50,000. He was released after posting bail.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the matter.
