Building Fire Displaces 33 in Newark

At approximately 12:14 p.m. on Tuesday, Newark firefighters responded to a call about a fire at 263 South Orange Avenue, according to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé.AdThe fire quickly spread to an adjacent building at 265 South Orange Avenue, prompting a second alarm at 12:48 p.m. and a third alarm at 1:45 p.m. due to the excessive outdoor, seasonal temperatures.

The fire was brought under control by 3:38 p.m.

NFD UPDATE 7:25 p.m. 33 adults and 16 children have been relocated. Two more Firefighters (a total of 3) have been transported to a local hospital for evaluation of possible heat exhaustion. 

The Newark Department of Public Safety Arson Unit will investigate the cause of the fire.
