Firefighters rushed to the 1100 block of Elizabeth Avenue for a report of a fire inside a mix-dwelling building this afternoon.
Residents and businesses in the immediate area were quickly evacuated at approximately 3 p.m., after smoke coming from the roof of the building was visible upon firefighters arrival.
Elizabeth Avenue is expected to remain closed between Broad Street and Jefferson Avenue until the fire department clears the scene.
There are no physical injuries immediately reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
