Brooklyn Woman Nabbed Passing Counterfeit Bills in Linden

Linden

A New York woman was arrested Thursday after she attempted to use six counterfeit $100 bills at a Linden Walmart.

Police responded to the Walmart, 1601 W. Edgar Rd. (Linden Shopping Plaza), on a report of a woman attempting to pass counterfeit currency Thursday at approximately 6:45 p.m., Captain James Sarnicki said this morning.

Loss Prevention personnel informed officers that a woman attempted to purchase an Apple Ipad, valued at $599, with six $100 dollar bills.

A sales clerk was able to determine that the bills were fake and alerted loss prevention. The clerk also attempted to stall the woman until police arrived, but she became suspicious and began to walk out of the store without the Ipad or money.

Arriving officers detained her at the exit door, and after speaking to the employees, placed her under arrest.

The woman gave conflicting accounts of how she came into possession of the phony money.

Malaysia B. Clark, 20, of Brooklyn, N.Y. was charged with uttering a forged document and is being held on $5,000 bail pending a court date set for October 9th.

The U.S. Secret Service was notified of the arrest and will follow up at a later date.
