Cumberland County authorities announced the guilty verdict of a resident for the murder of her child.
According to Bridgeton officials, on January 4, 2023, Nakira Griner, 28, of Bridgeton, was found guilty of 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Desecration of Human Remains, 2nd Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, 4th Degree Tampering with Evidence, and 2nd degree False Public Alarm.
Officials say the verdict came after a two-week jury trial.
The charges were based on events that occurred on February 8, 2019.
According to authorities, on that date, Griner reported her 23-month-old child, D.G. Jr., was abducted while she was walking to the store.
Authorities say the child’s desecrated remains were located on the defendant’s property later that evening.
An autopsy concluded the child died from blunt force trauma.
Sentencing is scheduled for February 21, 2023, at 1:30 pm.
As part of the deliberations, the jury also found the child victim was less than 14 years of age, an aggravating factor that would require the defendant to face a sentence of mandatory life imprisonment without eligibility for parole.
