The North Jersey Pop Warner Championships (13-15 Unlimited Division) was easily handed to The Brick City Lions Saturday morning in front of a crowd of 500 spectators at the Columbus Field over in Roselle NJ. The Lions squared off against Newark's crosstown rivals, The Jackie Robinson Bears.
The rained soaked and soggy Columbus Field had the Lions' #2, Aziz Wilson racking up 18 points including returns of two punts giving his team a 27-0 victory over The Jackie Robinson Bears.
The championship crown sets up an entrance into the Pop Warner Regional Championship Game that is scheduled to be played this weekend pending the winners of Philadelphia and Baltimore teams.
Wilson, (a 14-year-old Newark Brick Avon student) hopes to graduate in June and compete in high school football competition where he is in the process of selecting.
The much anticipated championship game marked the first time the two Newark Pop Warner Teams have competed against each.
