Authorities in Ocean County announced that on December 3, Maurice Cole, 36, and Jerron Evans, 41, both of Lakewood, were charged with Murder in connection with the death of Rondell Proctor, which occurred on May 27, 2010, in Toms River.Ocean County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael T. Nolan, Jr. said that on May 27, 2010, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to the Winteringham Village Apartments located at Route 166 in Toms River for a report of a shooting.
Responding Officers discovered Rondell Proctor, 22, of Arkansas, with several gunshot wounds to the torso as well as a gunshot wound to the face, Toms River Police stated.
Mr. Proctor was transported to Community Medical Center, officials say, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to Ocean County authorities, a subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Toms River Township Police Department went cold for several years.
Continuing investigation and testing of evidential items unavailable at the time of the original investigation resulted in the filing of these charges against Cole and Evans, Ocean County officials said.
Toms River Police said that on December 3, Cole and Evans were taken into custody without incident by Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department, Lakewood Township Police Department, and Ocean County Regional SWAT Team.Officials say they were transported to the Ocean County Jail, where they are lodged pending a detention hearing.
