The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are making their way to the scene of a pedestrian strike with a person fatally injured in Newark at this time.
A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 6:47 p.m., police were dispatched to the 300 block of 6th Avenue West to investigate reports of a person hit by a car.
Upon arrival, police found a severely injured female lying on the ground at that location.
The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway.
The driver remains at large.
