Police are on the scene of a shooting that had officers fire shots which struck and killed a person on a highway in Wayne at around 4:40 p.m.
There is no official information released by police at this time but according to preliminary reports, Fairfield and NJ State Police taped off the ramp from Route 80 West to Route 23 North where they began an investigation after officers fired their weapons for an unspecified reason.
One person inside a vehicle was struck and confirmed dead at that location.
The NJ Attorney General’s Office and The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office were notified of the shooting but there is no confirmation which department fired at the suspect.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
