In a tragic turn of events, Elizabeth City Spokeswoman Ruby Contreras has confirmed with RLS Media that two individuals have died following a violent crash at a dangerous intersection early Sunday morning.
According to Spokewoman Contreras at around 5:42 am, two vehicles collided at the intersection of East Grand and Spring streets (Route 1&9).
One of the vehicles, carrying three passengers, appeared to have been involved in an ‘earlier incident’.
Spokeswoman Contreras said that this vehicle ran a red light, leading to a catastrophic collision with a service type vehicle, which had two passengers.
Regrettably, both passengers (a male driver and a female passenger) in the second vehicle have been pronounced dead following the collision.
Spokeswoman Contreras said two of the passengers from the suspect vehicle have been apprehended, but the third passenger managed to escape on foot.
As of now, there has been no confirmation from Spokeswoman Contreras regarding a police pursuit prior to the collision.
This incident has raised serious concerns about safety at this particular intersection, known for its dangerous traffic conditions.
The investigation into this matter is still ongoing, and authorities are diligently working to provide more information as they uncover the full details of this unfortunate event.
