Suspects armed with long shot guns are responsible for multiple confirmed armed robberies in Newark, East Orange, and Irvington earlier this afternoon.
According to Irvington Police, at approximately 12:20 p.m., a suspect occupying a white Lexus arrive at two gas stations arm with -what appeared to be rifles and demanded cash from gas station attendants a separate stations.
Police say two suspects exited the vehicle while three assailants remain in the car during the robberies.
Authorities say the suspects also robbed gas stations in East Orange and Newark then sped through that portion of Essex County with police in pursuit much of the afternoon.
Police caught up with the white 2009 Lexis IS250 on I-78 near exit 52, where NJ State Police were called in to shutdown the highway after occupants inside the car began to throw objects onto the roadway around 5:45 p.m.
The car crash on I-78 and one suspect is in custody.
The other suspects are armed, dangerous, and have been terrorizing these Essex County communities all day.
There were no injuries reported in any of the robberies.
UPDATE 6:52: One Suspect apprehended
