RLS Media is tracking rapid developments in a double shooting that ended in a homicide earlier today.Carteret residents are now telling our information center that a potential suspect has been arrested. Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office officials have confirmed the arrest in a written statement.
The arrest occurred around 3:40 p.m. near an elementary school on Post Boulevard. Several officers cornered the suspect in a backyard -at gunpoint- of a home then ordered him to lay on the ground and don’t move.
The individual is believed to have shot two women, leaving one dead.
Earlier in the day, authorities responded to the area of Roosevelt Avenue following a report of a shooting.Upon their arrival, officers found two female victims who had both sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
One of the victims succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital, while the other remains in critical condition.
An initial investigation, led by Detective Keith Cassens of the Carteret Police Department and Detective Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, determined that the suspect is a man believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.
