The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are on the scene of an early morning fire that caused severe injuries to one of two victims in Maplewood early Tuesday morning.
According to Maplewood officials, heavy fire broke out inside a home in the teens block of Essex Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames tearing through a two and a half story house with reports of trapped occupants.
Crews were able to knock down intense flames just enough to make entry into the home, where they found two severely injured residents inside.
Police say both victims were rushed to University Hospital in Newark with one in 'grave condition.'
Firefighters managed to gain control of the fire in just under an hour. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
**UPDATE 5:55am:** Firefighters located a third seriously burned victim. Three total victims.
