BREAKING: Rubbish Fire Extends to St. Lucy’s Church in Newark

Newark fire officials ordered the evacuation of a church after a fire burned rubbish outside the house of worship this afternoon.

Officials said heavy flames that burned at 118 7th Avenue extended to the St. Lucy’s Church around 2:30 p.m. sending firefighters to the scene.

Upon arrival, officials struck a second alarm for manpower as flames connected on the church and appeared to have made its way up into the building's cockloft. 

EMS were called to the scene as a precaution while firefighters stretched multiple lines to get the blaze under control. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no injuries have been reported at this time.

Residents told RLS Media that several explosions were heard from the scene.
