Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian strike of a child that happened in the city this morning.
According to authorities, at approximately 9 a.m., Plainfield Police Division responded to a motor vehicle crash involving pedestrians.
Officers arrived at Park Avenue and West Second Street were they found two pedestrians - a mother and a young child - seriously injured.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital where the 3-year-old child died as a result of the injuries.
Preliminary information indicates a vehicle operated by an adult male was traveling south on Park Avenue and the pedestrians were walking across Park Avenue at the intersection of West Second Street authorities said.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle was not injured.
Plainfield Police Division Traffic Unit is currently investigating.
UPDATE 2:12 p.m. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The investigation is continuing and it’s premature at this point to determine if the driver will face any related charges. The mother still remains in critical condition at this time.
