There is a rescue operation underway for at least one person who jumped into the Passaic River in Newark this afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the area of Van Buren Street and Raymond Boulevard after witnesses observed two males jump into the river at around 2:15 p.m.
Fast responding emergency crews from the fire department were about to find one of the victims in the water and pull him to safety but crews could not locate the remaining victim according to reports.
Mutual assistance from Harrison and, as far away as, Bayonne were called to the scene to assist in the search.
The condition of the rescued victim has not been immediately reported as life threatening.
