BREAKING NEWARK NJ: Gunfire Erupts in Newark's West Ward; Police Involved Shooting

There is a large and extensive crime scene, that includes a perimeter, established in Newark's upper West Ward as police search for suspects involved in a shooting that occurred a shot time ago.

Details are still developing, but at around 4:30 p.m., a female victim that arrived by private vehicle to University Hospital suffering gun shot wounds to the back had police in the area of Alexander Street and 18th Avenue. It is not clear who shot the woman at this time.

A police officer reportedly fired his weapon in the single digit block of Spencer Street where a male victim was struck at that location.

At least one other person suffered a gunshot injury in the 100 block of Alexander Street but it is not confirmed if the victim was shot by police.

The extent of all the victims' injuries have not been confirmed at this time.

There were no injured officers.

Police are searching for suspects in the area at this time.
