Firefighters are battling raging four-alarm fire that is tearing through several buildings in Newark at this time.
Heavy fire engulfed a vacant building at 100 South 14th Street just before 3:30 a.m. sending firefighters to the scene where they arrived and immediately ordered a second alarm as flames shot from all sides of the building and began to spread to cars and neighboring residential homes.
Crews battled the intense fire from the original fire structure but were unsuccessful in stopping it from spreading to about five other homes causing extensive damage and destruction as flames jumped from house to house on the block.
A primary search of several buildings conducted by firefighters had no trapped or injured occupants. There are evacuations of homes on South 14th Street.
Bloomfield, Orange, Maplewood, Orange, and Irvington are among several municipalities providing house coverage for Newark as they fight this blaze.
This is the second multi-alarm fire in Newark for the overnight hours.
