Emergency responders are on the scene of a pedestrian strike with one confirmed fatality on McCarter Highway in Newark at this time.
According to preliminary reports, it happened in the vicinity of McCarter Highway and 4th Avenue at approximately 8:40 p.m. sending police to the scene where they found the severely injured male at that location. It appears that the victim was on a bicycle when he was struck.
Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Police have a crime scene established and an investigation underway.
Expect heavy traffic delays in the area near the Wingstop restaurant and the hotel.
