There was a stellar and heroic effort conducted by Newark Emergency Responders after they rescued a man who reportedly fell off of the Jackson Street Bridge and into the waters of the Passaic River this evening.

According to preliminary reports, it happened at approximately 7:10 p.m. where residents and passersby near the bridge contacted police after seeing a man hanging from the bridge for about 10 minutes.
According to eyewitnesses, the man fell into the waters and the current began to drift him away.
Rapid responding Newark Firefighters and rescue crews arrived at the scene and began to assist the man out of the water using what appeared to be ropes and other equipment.
The unidentified man suffered no apparent severe injuries.
