Firefighters are on the scene of a multi-alarm fire that is burning through three homes in a section of Newark at this time.
According to preliminary information from the scene, a heavy fire ripped through a vacant three-story house in the 100 block of South 11th Street around 11 a.m.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, officials immediately struck a second, then third alarm for manpower as flames shot from the main fire building across two neighboring occupied homes.
Firefighters poured massive amounts of water as they attempted to shield other buildings from becoming affected by heavy flames extending during the working fire.
Officials said the main fire building did collapse, but there were no reports of serious injuries at this time.
As of 11:50 a.m., crews had not brought the fire under control.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified and are responding.
UPDATE: A teenager suffered smoke installation but is expected to recover. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
