Firefighters rescued a mother and child from a burning building in Passaic this afternoon.
According to fire officials, the multi-alarm fire ignited inside a three-story mixed-used brick building located at 189 Dayton Avenue at around 2:30 p.m.
Crews arrived to find thick smoke coming from one of the apartments on the third floor of the building.
Firefighters were told that there were several trapped people inside apartments where they began to search.
Officials say the child and the mother were located then rescued from the windows.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in under a half-hour with the cause under investigation.
One firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries.
