BREAKING: Massive Fire Engulfs Five Buildings in Irvington Township

Firefighters are battling a massive blaze that has engulfed at least five buildings in Newark’s South Ward.

At approximately 5:10 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to 848 South 20th Street, near Montgomery Avenue, after reports of a building fire.

UPDATE 5:59 p.m. : Irvington Township Mayor Tony Vauss said the blaze is right on the border of Newark on Montgomery Avenue. This is an Irvington Tosnshop job. 

Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple homes heavily involved in flames and immediately struck three alarms to request additional manpower.

Fire Crews are working desperately, stretching six water lines in an attempt to control the fire, which continues to rage out of control.

Evacuations are underway in nearby homes as the safety of local residents and potential loss of life remain top concerns.

Firefighters are in the early stages of the fight, and updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
