BREAKING: Life Threatening Injuries Reported for Newark South Ward Shooting Victim

Police in Newark are reporting severe injuries for a male struck by gunfire in a section of the city's South Ward this afternoon.

According to police, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 783 Clinton Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive suffering a bullet wound in his chest. Police say CPR was in process upon their arrival.

Additional officers were called to the scene to assist with crowd control, according to police officials.

The suspect fled the scene and is at-large.

**UPDATE 4:30 p.m. The victim has died from his injuries.**
