Emergency responders are on the scene of a pedestrian strike that has one person dead on the NJ Turnpike in Kearny at this time.
According to a preliminary statement released by the NJ State Police, the incident happened at around 4:30 p.m. on the western spur of the Turnpike near exit 15W.
Police say they arrived to find to find an unconscious and unresponsive male victim laying on the ground suffering severe injuries.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene according to NJ State Police.
The victim was changing a flat tire when a box truck struck him on the exit ramp of 15W south. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene.
Police have the right lane closed to traffic so expect heavy delays.
