NJ Transit Police are leading the investigation into a deadly train strike that killed a juvenile in Monmouth County Saturday morning.
According to NJ Transit officials, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a train consisting of two engines and no passenger cars traveling on the North Jersey Coast Line from the Meadows Maintenance Complex (MMC) to Long Branch.
NJ Transit officials said the locomotive struck and fatally injured a male juvenile pedestrian in the vicinity of West Bergen Place near Red Bank station.
Officials say there were no customers on board the train and no injuries reported to the crew.
As of 3:58 a.m., NJ Transit officials said North Jersey Coast Line rail service is suspended in both directions between Long Branch and Red Bank.
Substitute bus service is being provided according to NJ Transit.
