There is an active investigation underway into a double shooting that has a woman and a child reportedly injured in Jersey City this time.
According to preliminary reports, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 166 Myrtle Avenue at approximately 2:10 a.m. sending police to the scene where they found a woman suffering apparent gunshot wounds to the leg inside a home.
A brief search of a home inside the multi-family building had officers locate a child, around the age of two-years-old, suffering a gunshot wound according to reports.
Both victims were rushed to Jersey City Medical Center where doctors are treating their injuries.
Police have the area closed off as they set up a crime scene after they found multiple shell casings in the hallway and multiple bullet holes in the door and front of the building where the victims were found.
It appears that the woman was attempting to open her front door shortly before gunfire rang out causing bullets to enter the apartment.
