Police in Jersey City are escorting EMS to Jersey City Medical Center with a police officer onboard who is suffering a gunshot wound at this time.
Details are developing, but according to preliminary reports, the incident happened in the 300 block of Woodlawn Avenue, at around 8 p.m., where the officer reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
It is not immediately clear what transpired during the incident.
A message has been left for comment from a spokesperson for Jersey City and The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

UPDATE 9:09 PM. Confirmed fatality. Police say at 7:50 p.m. a 911 call came in for an officer shot at 340 Woodlawn Avenue.
Upon arrival, JCPD police officers observed an off duty police officer suffering from a gunshot wound.
The 33-year-old male was brought to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The police officer has been on the force for 1 year, working out of the West District on the midnight tour.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation
