Newark Police took a suspect into custody this afternoon who is reportedly wanted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office for a homicide.
Police attempted to pull over a black Dodge Charger occupied by a suspect wanted for murder around 3 p.m.
The suspect sped away from police in the area of 14th Avenue and South Orange Avenue.
The suspect entered The Garden State Parkway southbound lanes and excited 143 in an attempt to evade police who remained close by.
Police say the suspect bailed from the car but was swiftly captured near the intersection of Springfield Avenue and New Street.
At approximately 3:10 p.m., the suspect crashed into a civilian vehicle near the intersection of South 19th Street and 12th Avenue, causing non-life threatening injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was notified.
