NJ Transit Police are investigating a train strike that killed two people this afternoon.
Officials say at approximately 1:30 p.m. today, Pascack Valley Line train 1613, a 12:34 p.m. departure from Hoboken with a 1:57 p.m. scheduled arrival at Spring Valley, struck and fatally injured two trespassers -- one adult male and one adult female --just west of the Anderson Street station in Hackensack.
Both trespassers were standing in the gauge of the track located near the intersection of Main Street and Terrace Place according to officials.
There were no reported injuries to the approximate 130 customers and crew members on board.
Pascack Valley Line service is temporarily suspended in both directions between New Bridge Landing and Teterboro due to this incident.
NJ TRANSIT bus is cross-honoring rail tickets and passes and Rockland Coach buses will cross-honor rail tickets and passes between Spring Valley and Pearl River.
The New Jersey Transit Police Department remains at the scene leading the investigation.
