Authorities in Newark are looking for a suspect responsible for a shooting that fatally injured a woman in Newark's West Ward Sunday night.
The incident unfolded in the vicinity of Stuyvesant Avenue and Rockland Terrace just before 12:55 p.m.
According to a preliminary investigation, Newark Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the West Ward community, sending officers to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, police found a female victim suffering a gunshot wound in her neck.
According to a brief statement released from the authorities, police said medical staff pronounced the unidentified woman dead a short time later.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office will lead the active and ongoing investigation and detectives reported no arrests at this time.
