One person suffered fatal injuries in a crash that involved an NJ Transit Bus on Tuesday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Hawthorne Avenue.
Police say the driver of a white vehicle collided head-on with NJ Transit bus 5982 (#27), trapping the female driver inside the car.
The unconscious and unresponsive woman had not been extricated by firefighters from the vehicle as of 6:10 a.m., so there was no official pronouncement of her death.
Police would only confirm life-threatening injuries as of 5:52 a.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has been notified.
There were no severe injuries reported on board the bus.
