Firefighting teams are currently tackling a significant brush fire that has erupted along the NJ Turnpike in Union County. The blaze, which was reported in the southbound truck lanes near mile marker 102 (between exits 14 and 14), has prompted authorities to escalate their response by striking two alarms for additional manpower.
This decision came as flames were observed spreading rapidly near the IKEA, posing a threat to nearby areas.
Elizabeth firefighters have actively stretched lines to supply water to douse the flames, which have already affected at least one vehicle.
While the cause of the brush fire is still under investigation, its impact is starting to be felt in the traffic flow, especially as rush hour approaches.
Commuters are advised to anticipate delays and exercise caution while traveling through the area.
The situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
