Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are in the early stages of investigating the death of a 57-year-old Newark man who was found severely burned.
The cause and manner of death will be determined by autopsy but the incident is being investigated as a homicide at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly.
The deceased is not being identified at this time because next of kin have not yet been notified.
The man was found outside in the 200 block of Astor Street, an industrial section of Newark at approximately 7:37 am today.
