BMW with Engine Left Running at Linden Gas Station Stolen

Linden New Jersey

Police are investigating the theft of a 2012 BMW taken early this morning from a gas station in Linden.

Police responded to the Exxon station, located at 11 E. Edgar Road, at approximately 12:21 a.m. for a report of a car theft.

The 37-year-old Edison man told police that he left his 2012 white BMW running while he went into the convenience store of the gas station.

While inside the store, he observed an African-American man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and headphones jump into his car and flee the station heading northbound on Routes 1&9.

The victim drew the attention of a Linden police sergeant on patrol at the intersection of S. Wood Ave. and Edgar Rd. who saw the BMW and followed it northbound.

The officer activated his lights and siren but couldn’t catch up to the vehicle, which was last seen heading into Elizabeth at a high rate of speed.

The victim told officers that his Apple I-phone was in the car and used the tracking device which showed the vehicle was in the city of Newark.

Linden then contacted Newark Police and advised them on the information, however the vehicle has not yet been recovered.

The vehicle had NJ license plates 'Z38ESF', police said

The vehicle is valued at $26,000.
