The Township of Bloomfield wants residents to know about the Low Income Home Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP), a federally funded program that provides funds to assist low-income households with water and wastewater bills, with applications now being accepted from those in need of help paying overdue bills.
“No family or child should go without access to water because of challenges paying bills,” said Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia.
“We are grateful for this funding and the opportunity it will provide to Bloomfield residents who may be struggling. I encourage anyone in our township that has been having a hard time with their water bills to submit an application."
According to officials, to be eligible for LIHWAP benefits, the applicant household must be responsible for their own water and sewer costs and have a gross income that falls at or below 60% of the NJ State Median Income level.
Funds will be provided directly to the water and wastewater companies, on behalf of the residential customer.
This assistance is not available for business accounts, estates, or property management companies.
Interested applicants will need the following documentation in order to apply: utility bill (all pages), proof of residence/address (lease, mortgage), proof of income (for all household residents ages 18 and older), and Social Security Card.
