Bloomfield Man, Hillsdale EMT Accused of Stealing Blank Checks from Woman During Ambulance Ride

A 32-year-old emergency medical technician is accused of stealing blank checks from a woman during transport from a hospital.

According to authorities, Hillsdale police were contacted by a resident in early December to report that two checks, that she believed were stolen during her transport from her home to the hospital via private ambulance service, had been deposited.

Police ensued an investigation which led them to Eric Fernandez, 32, of Bloomfield,

who was working as an EMT during the woman's ambulance ride.

Detectives ultimately determined Fernandez allegedly completed and signed the checks pretending to be the resident and deposited the checks into an account belonging to Karian Persaud, 31, of Bloomfield.

According to officials, detectives later determined Fernandez and Persaud lived together in Bloomfield.

Authorities charged Eric Fernandez, 32, of Bloomfield, with third-degree forgery, third-degree uttering a forged document and theft. Police also charged Persaud with third-degree uttering a forged document and third-degree theft by deception.
