A jury today found John DeRosa guilty of murdering Xavier Egoavil during a robbery at his Kearny jewelry store.
Shortly before 3 p.m., the jury returned rendered guilty verdicts for murder, felony murder, robbery, armed robbery and weapons offenses related to the murder weapon – a handgun.
DeRosa is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 9 by the Hudson County Superior Court Judge Patrick Arre. He could face up to life in prison.
According to authorities, DeRosa's along with co-defendants Elvis Feratovic, 30, Bloomfield and Edmir Sokoli, 29, of Bloomfield, assisted in the robbery of Rachel Jewelers on Kearny Avenue. According to Sokoli and Egoavil's mother, the gunman shot the owner when he became aggressive.
Security video evidence, witness testimonies were also presented during the trial m.
DeRosa's former girlfriend Marissa Fuzio, also testified that she saw him come home with a bag full of jewelry and reportedly told her that he shot a man while a jewelry store robbery.
