Bitter Cold: Newark, North Jersey Grapple with Frigid Sunday Temperatures

Residents in Newark and the broader North Jersey region are waking up to a biting cold Sunday morning, with temperatures plunging to 17 degrees and wind chills making it feel as cold as 6 degrees.supportIn Sussex County, thermometers are showing 9 degrees, but gusty winds drop the perceived temperatures to a harsh -3 degrees.

The situation is similarly harsh in Morristown and Prospect Park, with temperatures at 11 and 10 degrees respectively, and chilling winds making it feel like -2 degrees.

The National Weather Service advises those venturing out for early Sunday services or morning dog walks to layer up significantly.

"It's essential to dress warmly in layers and cover all exposed skin to prevent frostbite," a NWS spokesperson commented, noting today's high will barely reach 25 degrees, with wind chill values hovering between 5 and 15 throughout the day.

Tonight, the sky will clear, but the low will drop to around 14 degrees, with a mild north wind of 3 to 5 mph and northwest gusts up to 23 mph.
