North Jersey residents woke up to frigid temperatures this morning, with Newark starting the day at a bone-chilling 23 degrees and parts of Sussex and Passaic counties dipping below freezing.
Gusty winds are making it feel even colder, keeping wind chill values between 5 and 15 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Though the skies are partly cloudy, the brisk northwest winds—blowing at 10 to 18 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph—will keep temperatures feeling bitter throughout the day.
Highs will struggle to reach 32 degrees, meaning residents should bundle up before stepping outside.

Tonight’s forecast calls for clear skies, but temperatures will remain low, dipping to around 19 degrees, with wind chill values still in the teens.
However, warmer weather is on the horizon.
A gradual warmup is expected as we head into the weekend, with temperatures climbing steadily next week. While we’ll have to endure at least one more day of winter’s bite, milder and more comfortable conditions are just around the corner.
So, for now, layer up, brace for the chill, and look forward to the relief that’s on the way. Stay warm, New Jersey!
