Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Berlin Township Police Chief Leonard Check reported a Berlin Township man wanted for killing his ex-girlfriend has been found dead.
Berlin Township Police found the body of Michael Eitel, 45, at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday in the garage of a home on the first block of Holly Drive in West Berlin. He had committed suicide by hanging.
Eitel had been sought by the U.S. Marshals Service and local authorities for the murder of 39-year-old Carol Bowne. The victim was found by Berlin Township Police in the driveway outside of her home on the 100 block of Patton Avenue on Wednesday night. She was suffering from multiple stab wounds and died at an area hospital that night.
The residence where Eitel was found is the home of a different ex-girlfriend. She had been out of the home for her own safety.
This address was checked and cleared on Friday evening by police. Detectives believe Eitel snuck in sometime overnight and hung himself in the garage with a rope while kneeling.
Police returned to check the residence on Saturday after the homeowner asked to return. Officers were clearing the residence again to make sure it was safe to enter and located Eitel.
