Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on September 9, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Cedar Bridge Fire Tower reported a wildfire in the area of Fisher’s Pit, located in Berkeley Township.

Officials stated the fire had burned approximately 200 acres.AdAuthorities say the fire is now 70 percent contained.

A thorough investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, New Jersey Forest Fire Service, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that the cause of the fire is accidental by an unknown person(s) improperly extinguishing a campfire, officials said.
